Background The Colonial Regional Police Department was established on October 1, 1995. The Department was formed when the municipalities realized the need to join together for more effective and efficient police services while still trying to maintain a cost that was equitable to the taxpayers. The name Colonial was chosen as representative of the colonial heritage shared by all three municipalities. The Department provides 24-hour police protection for three Northampton County communities; the Borough of Bath and the Townships of Hanover and Lower Nazareth. The three municipalities have a combined area of 22 miles and serves a combined population of 14,500 residents and 5,500 daily work force commuters employed in the jurisdiction. The Department responds to approximately 7,000 incidents per year and has a strong emphasis on traffic enforcement, traffic safety and crime prevention. Services available include a K-9 unit, police bicycle patrol and involvement in the DARE Program at four elementary schools. There is an active Crime Watch program in each municipality. Our Mission "The maintenance of social order within the community within carefully prescribed ethical and constitutional restrictions". Our mission involves prevention of criminality; the repression of crime; the apprehension of offenders; the recovery of property; the regulation of non-criminal conduct; and the performance of miscellaneous services. The Colonial Regional Police Department exists to serve a variety of municipalities by protecting citizens' life and property: by preventing crime; enforcing laws; and by maintaining order for all citizens. Central to our mission are the values that guide our work and decisions and help us to contribute to the quality of life in Northampton County. Our values are the characteristics of the qualities of work. THEY ARE NON-NEGOTIABLE! Although we may need to balance them, we will never ignore them for the sake of expediency or personal preference. We hold our values constantly before us to teach and remind us, elected officials and municipal staffs, in order to provide the quality of service our values commit us to. We, the men and women of the Colonial Regional Police Department, value: HUMAN LIFE INTEGRITY LAWS AND CONSTITUTION EXCELLENCE ACCOUNTABILITY COOPERATION PROBLEM SOLVING OURSELVES We are extremely proud of our Department and the communities we serve. |
